2023 EOY

In December 2021, I read the Beck Book. I got the recommendation from from doctor on twitter (I think it was Dr. Phung, but I don’t remember) It radically impacted my mental model. The tagline of that book is think like a thin person. I have tried to channel that.

This year there were a lot of goods. And some bads. Let’s dive into everything

Summary

Used healthview2023_eoy.ipynb to figure this out:

  • Weight — no change
  • I ate EXACTLY like last year
  • I burned LESS CALORIES than last year
  • I averaged MORE distance per day
  • My HRV and VO2MAX IMPROVED
  • Running was a HOME RUN

Suggestions for next year

  • Early year weight loss is good. Carry it forward
  • Reduce average calories eaten by 200 calories a day
  • Increase the burn calories in other ways, if not distance.
  • Active recovery to keep fueling
  • Train for running. Don’t just run. Be smart about it.
  • For one year — focus only on cardiac fitness. Next in 2025, come back to weights.

Weight – swing and a miss

Food (largely the same)

Composition slightly changes in the right direction. A lot more protein.

Workouts – not as intense as I expected

My distance increased. But my burn reduced.

Cardiac fitness improved

Both HRV and VO2MAX look better

I basically ran 222 miles. Next up — 380 miles, you know why!

Quarter Reviews

Compared to the half:

  • I kept up the running
  • But weight loss stopped
  • Big factor: I realized how bad alcohol has been for me. This half of the year I probably had the least amount of alcohol consumption since 2008.

Other quarters, nothing that is worth pointing out here.

Blog summary

Wow, I have 362 blog posts. What the fuck. that is amazing.

Some themes:

  • Be kind to yourself
  • ALCOHOL IS KILLING ME
    • THIS IS CRITICAL. JUST GO COLD TURKEY
  • Calming the mind
  • EVERYONE IS LOOSING WEIGHT don’t be left behind
  • FUCK GLP I will do it LIVE
  • Running ACTUALLY destresses me
  • Don’t have TAIL EVENTS
  • Keep your food simple, and low cal
  • I respond well to GAMIFICATION
  • A formula that seems to work for me
  • Running is simple, yet not. Pay attention to it.
  • Calorie restriction is the KEY
  • BURNOUT and ACTIVE RECOVERY
  • Train well

One Year Since The Reboot

This blog and what it has helped me achieve so far has been fucking awesome. Hey man, good stuff. Keep this going.

Updating this blog

Okay, so this blog has been a fucking hit. I love it. It helps me organize my own thoughts. Keeps me a bit accountable. And the fact that it is public seems to give me a bit of accountability. A lot more than if I didn’t have this blog.

But it’s getting more and more complex! So, going to organize things a bit.

  • I will keep the free version going for now. Unfortunately, that means I cannot use plugins or my own domain. Will think about it some other day.
  • I have a couple of protocols buried among these posts. I just found a way to show tags on pages. I am going to utilize that approach!

Pages:

* 2024 Plan

    * Mind
    * Diet
    * Workouts

* Reviews

* Plans
* Protocols

GLP1 and Yerba Matte

Everyone is fucking using this now. Semaglutide, etc.

But I am not going to do that.

Instead, something is brewing here. Yerba Matte might do something similar. I remember it being pretty nice earlier in the year. I think it helped me loose weight.

What does it do?

Dramatically suppresses hunger. Hunger control is important.

Keto-ish OMAD-ish

I am trying this out now.

I need this to be a way to control the ingestion. Hopefully this can help me reduce the calories I am consuming.

Let’s see how this goes.

I have signed up for a running coach

Lets see how this goes.

Quite expensive. But lets see.

I don’t want to be one of those guys

That’s the thing. I have seen fat dudes who “run”. They do “marathons”. Somehow, they manage to do that without loosing weight.

Nope. I do not want to be one of those dudes. I want to focus on getting good times. And being fit and lean. That is part of the plan too.

Don’t burn this opportunity. Use it to actually loose weight.

Cross Training

This is an interesting titbit: strength training (full body workout — deadlifts, squats, etc) is really good cross training.

Cycling is okay too. Leg stability.

Taking pride in the body

I have often shirked from being so materialistic. But maybe that doesn’t always work….

I want to look at myself often, perfect the imperfections, constantly feel my muscles, and thinness. I need to create that mind-muscle connection. It is a form of meditation.

I do want to build a sexy body. Sculpt it all. Including the issues that I am not liking right now — rip the bandage.
